Abstract
A Monte Carlo procedure for the nuclear shell model is presented that permits exact calculations in model spaces not previously possible. The method makes use of the Hubbard-Stratonovich transformation to transform the operator e − βH into a functional integral, which is evaluated using Monte Carlo techniques. Within this formalism, ground-state or thermal expectation values of static observables and response functions can be computed.
