Abstract

Monte Carlo simulations of the transport of Doppler-broadened resonance radiation in certain ideal geometries are described. The results corroborate the usual local thermodynamic equilibrium assumption. Spectral line shapes, quenching probabilities, and resonance defects are discussed, and simple empirical formulations are noted.
