Abstract

Knowledge of the photon energy spectra of diagnostic x-ray beams in general, and of mammographic x-ray beams in particular, is useful for calculating radiation dose and evaluating image quality. Mammographic x-ray spectra have been computed theoretically using the Monte Carlo method. Agreement with the experimentally determined spectra is not particularly good. The causes of the differences need to be investigated.
