Abstract

Abstract. - In active mountains, there is a dynamic equilibrium between relief uplift (a result of tectonics and isostatic compensation), river downcutting and slope adjustment by large-scale mass wasting. With the help of new methods of analysis, geomorphologists must both understand the geodynamic processes and participate to a well-thought-out and long-term oriented management of these often threatening environments.
