Abstract

Monopole and dipole are two most important sound source models in acoustic analysis. In the past, only the approximation solutions for the sound field generated by these two sources could be found in the literature. In this work, the exact analytical solutions of the sound field generated by these solutions of the sound field generated by these sources were developed first, and the error between the exact solution and the approximation solutions were discussed. Besides, the sound field generated by the moving monopole and dipole sources were also investigated by the time domain boundary element method developed newly in the work. The results show that the amplitudes of the sound pressures calculated from the approximation solutions were over-estimated when the sources were stationary. The error between the exact solution and the approximation solution becomes even more complicated when the sources in movement. The results of this work could be useful to improve the accuracy of acoustic analysis.
