Abstract

Grand-unified monopoles catalyse baryon decay with a cross section enhanced by the Callan-Rubakov effect. They can also be annihilated efficiently via the Langacker-Pi mechanism. We discuss how far such a scenario can explain the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe, and to what extent the baryon asymmetry constrains the Langacker-Pi mechanism.
