Abstract

1. 1. It was demonstrated that concentrated KCl solutions applied to the ventricular surfaces or injected into the pericardial sac in small quantities produce either monophasic or deformed ventricular complexes resembling those due to coronary occlusion. 2. 2. Since similar changes in the form of ventricular complexes occur as a result of this and other conditions, caution in the interpretation of such waves is urged. 3. 3. The observations represent the first crucial proof that drugs and chemicals can be directly absorbed from the ventricular surface in mammalian hearts. 4. 4. The therapeutic possibilities are suggested. 5. 5. A logical explanation for the rapid cardiac depression which follows virulent forms of pericarditis is given by these results.
