Abstract

Planar monolithic matrix-addressable visible LED arrays were fabricated from the AlGaAs-GaAs material system using proton bombardment for pixel-to-pixel electrical isolation. Computer simulation was used to model the current distribution in the device in order to determine the uniformity of brightness across the emitting surface. A 5 × 7 element visible LED display was demonstrated using an ASCII character generator.
