Abstract
Water is one of the most important substances required by humans and other living things; therefore there are many international regulations and laws in place to prevent pollution. The purpose of this study was to assess the water quality and analyze the concentration variables over a one year period. Environmental sampling was conducted for 3 months at 4 sites in the Gongchoncheon river for one year in Incheon, Korea. Variables such as dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, temperature, and electrical conductivity (EC were measured using the YSI 556 water quality meter The biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemica oxygen demand (COD), and suspended solids (SSs were manually analyzed according to the standard method. The concentrations of most of the variables were over the water standard I. The time history concentration patterns, except in site A, were increased from summer to winter. In addition, the levels of the variables at site D were higher than those of the other sites. Based on the correlation analysis results, the BOD and SSs were positively correlated, but DO and temperature were negatively correlated. Overall, this research suggests that some caution is required in managing the water quality downriver, based on the season.
