Abstract

Several parameters (photosynthesis, chlorophyll-a fluorescence, enzymatic activities, carbohydrate pools) possibly useful to describe the intrinsic quality of a tissue cultured plant, both in vitro and during acclimatization, were evaluated. Differences in behaviour between autotrophic and mixotrophic cultures were described, as well as the reaction of the plants to different culture and climatic conditions. In general, chlorophyll-a fluorescence was found to be an useful, fast and reliable measuring technique to obtain adequate information about the current status of the plant. Measurements were highly correlated with photosynthesis and with visual observations of plant quality.
