Abstract

CT transitions involving Lys/Glu sidechain charged groups and peptide backbone accounted for novel absorbance observed in protein α3C (devoid of aromatic amino acids) in the near UV-Visible region (250–800nm). CT spectra from other charged amino acids were also similarly elucidated using TDDFT calculations. Weak luminescence from multiple monomeric proteins characterized by significant overlap among their emission spectra, large Stokes shifts and multiexponential lifetime(s) have also been reported.
