Abstract

Urban mobility is a key topic in several research groups in the world. This is because urban mobility has increased due to factors such as the increase in population density, the increase in vehicles or traffic incidents. Incidents represent the set of obstacles that modify the behavior of the traffic flow. The monitoring of traffic incidents in real time through map applications allows the data to be analyzed and graphically visualized taking into account its location and the time in which these data were generated. This makes it possible to identify, for example, the days and times with the highest number of incidents in a specific city area. In this research work we present a structured method to monitor incidents in real time. A case study was carried out in which the proposed method was used for a one-week monitoring of a main avenue in Mexico City with the objective of analyzing the way in which incidents modify the vehicular flow. This type of study allows the analysis of urban vehicular mobility for decision-making in road infrastructures.
