Abstract

α-Synuclein (α-Syn) is considered to be reliable biomarkers for the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD). We demonstrate a facile and ultra-sensitive electrochemical biosensor for the selective detection of α-Syn oligomer (αSO) using an electrically conductive poly(pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid) (PPy-COOH) and aptamer receptor, without additional agents. The developed biosensor exhibits extremely low detection limit of 10−3 fM with high sensitivity which is desirable for the early diagnosis of PD. Furthermore, the proposed sensor is advanced to a point-of-care (PoC) platforms based on portable smartphone device and the sensing performance of αSO via the developed PoC platform displays remarkable performance like as plug-in potentiostat based sensor.
