Abstract
Ocean disposal of approved material (dredged or excavated material, organic material of natural origin) at designated sites within Canada is regulated by Environment Canada. One of the most active sites on the west coast of Canada is just outside Vancouver, off Point Grey in the central Strait of Georgia. Environment Canada requires that all vessels report their positions to Vessel Traffic Management and ensure that they are within the site before commencing disposal. Water depths (210–250 m) present a challenge to seafloor monitoring to determine if material reaches the bottom within the site.
