Abstract

This paper presents the results of the experience of introducing large-scale photogrammetric documentation during the excavation of the Nea Paphos site in Cyprus. Photogrammetric documentation of the archaeological contexts explored was carried out in two stages. The first was under the full control of a qualified photogrammetrist between 2016 and 2018. In the second phase between 2019 and 2021, documentation was carried out largely independently by archaeologists. As the statistical analyses showed, the implemented documentation methodology met the needs of the archaeological work perfectly and became a convenient tool to improve the archaeological research. The research results presented here are the first analysis of the long-term large-scale application of photogrammetric techniques in archaeology fieldwork.
