Abstract

Introduction: Athletes are exposed to unique stressors due to the nature of high-performance sports and other personal factors. Despite an increased awareness of the psychological demands of high-performance sport and evidence suggesting a possible negative relationship between poor mental health, performance and susceptibility to injury, current injury surveillance methods are based on physiological demands that decontextualise athletes’ experiences.
