Abstract

The meeting, which coincided with 50 years of radiobiological studies at Lowestoft, considered the practices and strategies underlying environmental monitoring for radioactivity. Speakers represented nuclear operators, regulators, advisory bodies and local authorities. More than 90 delegates attended. Differing areas of concern emerged, but a number of common themes were also apparent. These included change, `value-for-money' and adequate definition of the purposes of monitoring.
