Abstract
Significance The ousted Democratic Party (DP) is reduced to a weak opposition in the next parliament. A new government later this year will set about addressing the country's serious economic challenges. Impacts The MPP victory should ensure stable government for the next four years. The medium-term outlook for the economy will get a boost from improved policy-making and certainty. Mongolia may struggle to meet external debt obligations. Rio Tinto's Oyu Tolgoi mine looks set to make a greater contribution to the economy.
