Abstract

Detailed structural studies of CdNdTh(AsO 4) 3, which shows dimorphism, are presented here. The low-temperature variety exhibits the monazite structure, which is converted to a scheelite variety at high temperature. The irreversible phase transition is endothermic. The structures were identified by X-ray diffraction, and site-symmetry considerations were employed for the interpretation of the vibrational spectra.
