Abstract
In this note we consider monoids in and (tensored) monadson a monoidal categoryV. We prove the canonical inclusion functor from the category of monoids inV to the category of monads onV to be coadjoint. Furthermore, we show that this adjunction is “induced” by a monoidal adjunction. We characterize the monads generated by monoids (by means of the inclusion functor).
