Abstract

Intravenous fluids (IVF) and loop diuretics are associated with adverse outcomes including acute kidney injury (AKI), electrolyte and acid-base disturbances. Co-administration of the two is a paradoxical and under-studied phenomenon with evidence of increased mortality, higher rates of critical care admission and renal replacement therapy (RRT) compared to isolated diuretic use.
