Abstract

The authors show how to calculate the momentum distribution function N(p) for electrons within the KKR-CPA band theory method for random alloys. As an example, they evaluate N(p) for momenta along the directions defined by p=(0,0,pz); 0<or=pz<or=2 and p=(1,1,pz+1); 0<or=pz<or=1 for an Ag0.2Pd0.8 random alloy. They argue that a well defined Gamma -centred sheet of Fermi surface and possibly also smeared out d-like X-centred 'ellipses' and a multiply connected 'jungle gym' should be observable in a positron annihilation experiment.
