Abstract

The adjustment or mill setting in a cane sugarfactory involves the work opening determination of the top roller with the feed and delivery roller and the trash plate. Mathematical models based on a set of semi-empirical equations have been developed, which describe the process of milling sugarcane. From these equations, it is possible to obtain a balance of mass and energy, and from this simulation, determine values for the operating parameters of the mills, including the work openings. From the equations known and used in factory practice, a software that assists the engineers in charge of the maintenance and operation of mills has been developed. This assistance also includes dimensioning the trash plate and feed chute, including its position in each mill. This software significantly simplifies the calculation, allowing better selection and positioning of the available rollers, some new and others reconditioned, to optimize the adjustment of the mills of different designs and sizes.
