Abstract

Having recently attended the 1979 meeting of the ICSU Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) which was held in Bangalore, India, Simon Black reports that within the general context of the uses o f space research in the struggle for human survival on this small and crowded planet, COSPAR, in addition to reviewing the application of satellites for the management of water resources and prospecting for new mineral resources, discussed two topics of particular interest to biochemists — chemical evolution in space and early biological evolution on earth.
