Abstract

According to the Grote-Hynes Theory, the reduction of the rate constant of a barrier crossing reaction in solution from its Transition State Theory value is governed by the time-dependent friction exerted by the solvent on the reaction system. The influence of an internal vibrational degree of freedom for a molecular solvent on this friction, and thus on the rate constant, is examined via a collisional model, and the consequences are assessed.
