Abstract

ABSTRACT A few Sandalwood odor molecules and very similar odorless compounds have been compared with t-Butyl-bicyclodecan-3-ol, a substance which possesses a Sandalwood-like fragrance, using a new method of molecular shape comparison. Important prerequisites are an exact analysis of all possible conformations of the investigated molecules and the best possible matching of the two geometries in question. Previous results about the shape of such molecules in principle were affirmed and a correlation between volume comparisons and olfaction of the molecules was found.
