Abstract

The efficiency of intracytoplasmic sperm injection is hampered by the competency of the sperm to completely activate the egg. This expanded Day‐8 bovine blastocyst was produced using a sperm previously treated with methylbetaciclodextryn (MβCD), a capacitation agent that Aguila et al. (this issue) used to improve its ability to initiate egg activation. The quality of this in vitro‐derived embryo was assessed using differential staining technique to distinguish trophectoderm cells (black nuclei) from all the cells in the blastocyst.
