Abstract

New values of the spin–rotation interaction constants for CF4 are used to obtain improved values of angular mometnum correlation times from 19F NMR spin–lattice relaxation times in liquid and gaseous CF4. Within limitations mainly imposed by uncertainties in the orientational correlation times derived from Raman line shape analysis, the J-diffusion limit of McClung’s extended diffusion model for spherical top molecules is applicable over a density range which extends from the liquid at the melting point through the critical point to the dilute gas.
