Abstract

A highly selective response of a microelectrode to cyanide ions is induced by the lipophilic dicopper(II) macrocyclic complex [(L)Cu2(NO3)4](L = polyaza-macrocycle; see structural formula on the right) embedded in a PVC liquid membrane. The complex is the first example of a new type of anion-selective ionophore. The target anion is efficiently incorporated by a molecular recognition process. R = C.16H33.
