Summary

Introduction

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by insulin resistance and insulin deficiency. Several DPP4 inhibitors have recently been approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA), such as sitagliptin (Merck), vildagliptin (Novartis), saxagliptin (BMS), alogliptin (Takeda), and linagliptin (Lilly) (Cox et al, 2016). Their use in the clinical application is not devoid of problems such as severe adverse effects, including hypoglycemia, edema, weight gain, and gastrointestinal distress (Li et al, 2016). The need for novel and potent antidiabetic agents with minimum side effects is indispensable. Ji et al (2014) designed and synthesized novel β-amino pyrrolo-2carbonitrile derivatives and found that compound 9l showed excellent DPP4 inhibitory activity resulting in decreased blood glucose in vivo
