Abstract

A molecular map of rice consisting of 114 amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) and 38 simple sequence length polymorphism (SSLP) markers was constructed using an F 8 recombinant inbred (RI) population derived from the cross between two temperate japonica parents, Suweon365 and Chucheongbyeo. A set of SSLP markers was used to construct the framework map. The AFLP markers were derived from 11 EcoRI(+2) and MseI(+3) primer combinations. Proportions of polymorphic bands between the parents averaged 21.8% and 13.0% for SSLP and AFLP, respectively. The map covered 756.8 cM of the 12 rice chromosomes, with an average interval size of 5.6 cM. A total of seven significant quantitative trait loci for days to heading, panicle length, panicles plant, and spikelets panicle were detected on four different chromosomes.
