Abstract

Two coordination compounds of Zn(II) with a doubly deprotonated bis(β-diketone) 1,3-(CO-CH2-CO-Ph)2Ph (H2L), [Zn2(DMSO)4L2] (I) and [Zn2(bipy)2L2]·4(DMSO) (II) (bipy = 4,4′-bipyridyl; DMSO = dimethylsulfoxide), have been prepared and characterized with XRD method. Both structures are based on a binuclear flat fragment Zn2L2. The crystal structure I reveals van der Waals packing of molecules in which four DMSO ligands are coordinated axially to the cations of the binuclear fragments. The crystal structure II comprises a linear coordination polymer in which adjacent binuclear fragments are connected through bridging bipy ligands to form a molecular ladder type of architecture. Guest DMSO molecules reside in the voids of the crystal packing. The newly obtained host coordination polymer is compared with similar polymers based upon metal dibenzoylmethanate bis-chelate platforms.
