Abstract

The magnetic properties for the melt-spun amorphous Fe 100− x Gd x alloys were analyzed using the molecular field theory (MFT). A concentration dependence of three exchange interaction constants was derived over a wide concentration range (18≦ X≦60) and an interpretation for this was given. A little-known inversely bent curve of the magnetization observed in Gd-rich region, the so-called inflection-like behavior, was investigated in detail. In addition, a deviation from the linear relationship of the Arrott plot was studied. The exchange constant between Gd atoms J Gd–Gd varies as a function of the content but does not take a negative value. The inflection-like behavior is found to appear in relatively wide range of the J Gd–Gd and J Fe–Gd under the condition of T c ≧T comp . Curvature of the Arrott plot in Gd-rich region was qualitatively simulated.
