Abstract
The temperature dependence of quadrupole spin–lattice relaxation time of 35Cl nuclei has been measured in solid trimethylamine– and trimethylphosphine–boron trichloride complexes. The nature of reorientation processes occurring in the complexes has been established and the activation parameters determined. The obtained results indicate that in BCl 3–trimethylamine and –trimethylphosphine the hindered rotation of the whole complex occurs rather than uncorrelated motion of the two moieties. The motions are discussed in relation to the molecular structure of the complexes. The temperature dependence of the 35Cl NQR frequency of trimethylphosphine–boron trichloride is also reported.
