Abstract

INTRODUCTION Mansonia (Diptera: Culicidae) mosquitoes are known vectors of arthropod-borne viruses (arboviruses) such as Chikungunya and Rift Valley fever (RVF) viruses that affect man and livestock1,2. These diseases are prevalent in eastern Africa and occur in different ecological zones, as evident in the 1997/1998 and 2006/2007 RVF outbreaks in Kenya1,2. Vector species identification is very important in any control strategy. However, there is very little molecular information on Mansonia species and tools available for their identification.
