Abstract

Fluorescence resonance energy transfer measurements have been used to establish a structural map of chloroplast coupling factor 1 (CF 1). This molecule is intrinsically asymmetric, with the nucleotide binding sites far from the membrane surface. A regulatory region is located midway between the nucleotide binding sites and the membrane.
