Abstract

The compounds 2-(vinyl) pentaborane and B-vinylborazine have been observed to undergo thermally induced polymerizations to produce either soluble or crosslinked forms of poly[2-(vinyl) pentaborane] or poly(B-vinylborazine), respectively. It has now been found that when these polymers are pyrolyzed under appropriate conditions they may function as excellent high yield precursors to boron-containing ceramics such as boron carbide and boron nitride.
