Abstract

A new discotic liquid crystal template has been found and the host-guest architecture structures on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) surface have been identified with scanning tunneling microscope (STM). This discotic liquid crystal molecule can function as a new molecular template for distribution and dispersion of organic molecules. The present molecular template may provide a facile way to fabricate new functional materials.
