Abstract
Abstract A formula based on the scaled particle theory of fluids has been derived for the intrinsic volume of ions. Validity ranges of earlier semiempirical formulas are discussed in the light of the formula. Using the theoretical values of the intrinsic volumes of ions, values of volume contraction caused by ion-water interactions are estimated.
