Abstract

This paper analyses documents and records of Historical Archive of Šumadija in Kragujevac, which are important historical sources for reconstruction of Romani history. The most important events in modern history of Romani population on the territory of Kragujevac city are presented, i.e. from the second half of 19th century until the building of socialist society in Yugoslavia after the Second World War. The focus of the paper is based on examples which testify about the coexistence, solidarity and suffering of Roma and Serbian people. Since the shooting of civilians in October in 1941 marked the history of Kragujevac, the paper shows possible ways for researching, which could make our knowledge about Roma execution deeper. The paper points out the necessity of archives in the context of complex reconstruction of Roma population history.
