Abstract

The present production system in many aerospace manufacturing industries are consisting of multiple bill of materials (BOM).BOM are initially defined in the product drawings and then converted into different BOM definitions and configurations, which are extended throughout the industry. These BOM are managed by manual and time-consuming processes. This paper presents a module based part management system in which every part has been assigned a unique identification number. The flow of parts data is managed by grouping the parts in modules. Modules are a collection of parts, plans and tools that are fully record all airplane product definition requirements. A single and accurate bill of materials is created by developing a single source of product data (SSPD). Other BOM are derived from the single BOM structure. The subsequent BOM are considered as the different views of the single BOM. SSPD integrates the design and manufacturing data effectively and efficiently. The product information data is structured in such a way that everyone can access it according to his privileges. Departments like design, manufacturing and production planning can retrieve complete and accurate data specific to their needs.
