Abstract

We analyze the dynamics of modulational instability and periodic waves in the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations describing light propagation in birefringent dispersive Kerr media. New stationary periodic solutions are found for these equations. Our analysis reveals the fundamental link which exists between the phenomenon of polarization modulational instability and the so-called black and white vector soliton.
