Abstract

This paper outlines a study of the modulation response characteristics of a semiconductor laser with weak optical feedback, and presents equations on the amplitude response of the laser under current modulation conditions. We demonstrate theoretically that the gain of the amplitude response is a function of the modulation frequency, optical feedback level and delayed time. In addition, a large in-current will enhance the modulation bandwidth. The numerical results demonstrated that optical feedback can improve the laser's modulation response for some parameters.
