Abstract

A nonlinear Schrödinger equation is derived by perturbation analysis for a transverse magnetic mode surface wave propagating on a fixed semi-infinite plasma with slowly varying density, taking into account all the electron nonlinear dynamics, and especially the surface currents. The effects of the dynamic nonlinearities and the surface currents on the nonlinear behavior of the surface wave is assessed in comparison to the effects of the slow density perturbation.
