Abstract

Based on the use of the vector apparatus and the Jones matrices, a polarization-modulation method for bearing of a moving object from radio beacon signals orthogonally polarized along left and right circles is investigated. The proposed method is based on the use of a rotating quarter wave phase plate as a polarization modulator inserted into the receiving channel of the onboard antenna of the moving object. The bearing is estimated at the receiver output from the phase of the fourth harmonic of the polarization modulation frequency.
