Abstract

A doubly Q-switched Nd:Gd0.63Y0.37VO4 laser emitting 1342 nm wavelength with an acousto-optic modulator and a V3+:YAG saturable absorber is presented and its modulation frequency characteristics are studied. The experimental results show that the periodic ramping behavior of the modulation frequency in this system exists. The points of inflection are related to pump power. The average output power, the pulse width and the peak power are related to the modulation frequency. Numerical simulations based on the coupled rate equations are given to analyze and verify the experimental results.
