Abstract

The Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) is measurement of power present in a received signal. It's a very important parameter estimated in the mobile communication receivers for ordering and prioritizing different cells. It influences various decisions like, cell power reporting, cell list ordering, successful handover decision, better measurement accuracy, gain setting, neighbour power reporting etc. So, RSSI should be measured very accurately by the mobile receiver and should not vary from measurement to measurement or influenced by other system parameters like, transmitted data sequence, modulation type etc. So, here a new method is proposed to make the RSSI measurement independent of transmitted data sequence and modulation type. Also, the dc value should be estimated and corrected properly. But as the number of received I,Q sample numbers are less (<32) so, most of the time the estimated dc using mean value approach is not accurate. That requires a solution which can help to provide rightly estimated dc and help for proper RSSI estimation. The proposed solution will do so and help in many ways for system performance improvement.
