Abstract

Features of modulated structures in ${\mathrm{Bi}}_{2}$${\mathrm{Sr}}_{2}$${\mathrm{Ca}}_{1\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathit{x}}$${\mathrm{Y}}_{\mathit{x}}$${\mathrm{Cu}}_{2}$${\mathrm{O}}_{\mathit{y}}$ have been investigated by means of electron microscopy. In addition to two one-dimensional modulated structures with different periods, a new structure modulated along the a and b axes is found in 0.8\ensuremath{\le}x\ensuremath{\le}1.0. A high-resolution electron micrograph shows that the new structure is characterized by the periodic array of wavy stripes along the b axis.
