Abstract

The crystal and magnetic structures of theCaCuxMn3-xMn4O12 compounds with x = 0.3 and0.7 were investigated by means of x-ray and neutron powderdiffraction. The crystal structure parameters of the x = 0.3compound at 60 K have been refined within the trigonal spacegroup R3̄. The magnetic moments of Mn ions in thex = 0.3 sample become ordered below 40 K. The magneticordering is modulated with a propagation vector (0,0,κ).A model of the magnetic structure which is in agreement with theexperimental data is proposed along with an estimation of thetemperature dependence of the magnetic moment value. Themagnetic ordering has a reduced correlation length of about250 Å. The x = 0.7 compound does not show any long-rangemagnetic ordering down to 1.5 K.
