Abstract
In order to comply with growing customization, firms are looking for flexible design architecture in their product development (PD) processes. This flexible design architecture would enable easy, low cost and faster PD process. The basic requirement for design flexibilities is to ensure proper information flow within the design architecture. The role of information exchange influences the basic architecture of product development process, which also affects the general theme of product customization. In today’s volatile business environment, proper way of information management could be an added value for manufacturing firms. This paper deals with the importance of information flow modeling over product architecture. The basic principle of product architecture and its effect on product customization process are reported. A case study is presented within the scope of this paper with a view to model the information tracking system applicable for design architecture and product customization.
